Different trucks out there...

So you may have seen that there are a LOT of different trucks out there.  So, I thought I would try to explain some of them!!
Conventional Sleeper truck.

Cabover with Sleeper

Day Cab Cabover

Most trucks you see out there are conventional sleeper trucks.  These are most of your over-the-road trucks.  Then, you see a lot of day cab trucks.  A day cab is usually for those drivers that deliver goods locally and go home every night.  There are a lot more of these trucks in the city.

European big rig.  BIG difference!
Cabover trucks are an older type of truck.  They were popular from the 1960's to the 1980's and have phased out.  I have only driven one cabover truck and I do admit, they take some time to get used to!!  You sit right over the steering axle and engine.  The whole cab tilts forward to access the motor.  Today, cabovers are very popular and useful in Europe.

Now, we all know the car brands:  Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, and so on.  Here are the major big truck brands:  Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, Western Star, International.

The engines are all diesel.  They range from 330 Horsepower up to 600 Horsepower!!  The transmissions are usually 9, 10, 13, 15, and 18 speeds!  Engine brands are:  Detroit, Caterpillar, Cummins, Volvo, Mercedes Benz.  MY truck 24 is a 2004 year model Freightliner Columbia conventional sleeper truck with a 455 Horsepower Mercedes Benz engine with a 10 speed transmission.

Mr. Walker's truck

This is a picture of my truck.  It's a Dodge 3500 4x4.  It's a 2008 year model.  It has a cummins diesel engine rated at 320 horsepower with a 6 speed.  I've had it for about a year now.

My wife drives a maroon colored Chevrolet Suburban.  It's also 4x4, and has a big grill guard on the front.  We've had it for about 5 years now.  She really likes it.  I think my wife would say her favorite feature is the heated seats!!

Interesting!  Big truck/Little car!!

I hope you guys are having a great week!!  I'll try to show you some different trailers and what they are used for later in the week!!  Until next time - Mr. Walker
